[editor's note:
The following was written when we went live -- a couple of months before the official RK site was overhauled. Any comments about the site obviously do not reflect the current status -- to which we at Desolation Angel give great kudos!]

June 25, 2002

I've been a devoted Reckless Kelly fan since October 30, 1997. That was the night I saw my very first show, at Stubb's BBQ in Austin. I won't wax rhapsodic here about that night, since I've covered my fanaticism ad nauseam with this story, written in July 2001.

There has already been a better Reckless Kelly fan site than mine. 8 More Miles, by Kevin, was a perfect resource for any RK fan. Developed as a fan's alternative to the band's official site, it had a clean design, was wonderfully easy to navigate, and featured comprehensive lyrics listings. Sadly, it had to go away.

I don't want to be one more person ripping on the official RK site, so I'll leave it at the comment "Not the most functional for a real fan."

I hope this never changes.

The way I see it, their site is the way it is because the band has neither the time to do it themselves, nor the money or interest to hire someone to clean it up and make the updates at least weekly. If that changes, it means that Reckless Kelly is moving to the next level -- and I'm happy with them right where they are, thankyouverymuch... playing Austin at least twice a month, living here in town in a funky old neighborhood, and pulling the same trailer with Idaho plates.

This site is for me, but also for those who love the music the way I do: obsessively. Reckless Kelly has never done a bad show, in my eyes. I take more from them than I could repay by buying koozies and t-shirts -- and to be honest, my friends have been tired of hearing about the band for a couple of years now. So here I am.

The name of the site comes from one of RK's not-yet-recorded songs, called "Desolation Angels" -- in my opinion, it is their best song yet. Willy said that he was inspired to write it after reading a poem of Kerouac's. We've compiled a lot more information about Kerouac's writing and this source material [coming soon]. Normally we'd put the lyrics here for you to see , but as they haven't even been released by the band yet, it would be inappropriate. Check back with us when the new CD comes out (or when someone else crosses that line first).

xoxo,
Tracy
