About Carmen

“Haaayyy!!” Where do I start… who am I? what am I doing here? Lets see… I was opened up to all this because of my good friend, Rachel. Yes, its true I have always listened to a wide variety of music, but never ever liked country or anything that resembled it.

“Its not really country… like rock with a country-ish feel! Just come to ONE show!”

And I was dragged kicking and screaming to a damn “country” show…

So Rachel, the other girls she made come, and I headed to Dan’s Silverleaf here in Denton to see some band called Reckless Kelly.

“Just give it a chance… I swear you will have fun! You can hit me tomorrow if you hate it!”

Yeah, she was confident… for good reason! All I know is that I was hooked in the first couple of songs! They packed out this place, yet I bet each person had the same feeling I did… these guys know how to connect with each and every person in the crowd. I loved everything about it- the bar, LOVED the bar, the beer naturally, the people I met and how excited they got for every song they played, the energy, the words, the beat, the guitar… the music! And bonus points for seeing it with Rachel… I’m telling you, if I ever get to go to a show with Rachel, its gonna be a good one no matter what!

“Ok, you were right. I had soooo much fun!”
“You liked them? I told you so!”

She was like a proud believer who had just led me to the light!

“When’s the next one?”

I bought Millican at the next show I went to. Normally you have the two or three, maybe four, songs that carry the cd and the rest is something you skip to get to your favorite. But I loved Millican from start to end. I was so worried that I had so much fun seeing these guys live and that the “magic” I saw in the shows would fade in the studio… but I was pleasantly blown away! Once I figured out that they could do both and still make me happy, I was sold! And I haven’t looked back since! I don’t even get tired of it… and that speaks loud, too. I was hooked a little more with each song I heard.

And you are still wondering “who is this girl?” No one important I assure you. I was born and proudly raised here in Texas… Denton to be exact. But after 24 years in the same town I am working to get my ace down to Austin. Tried college, wasn’t for me… maybe one day it will be, but so far not my thing. I don’t know the meaning of my life, so I definitely have no business telling you the meaning of anyone else’s… sorry. Someone once told me, “You have found yourself so many times, Trisha” and oh my God, if someone has never hit the nail more on the head with that comment! He probably still doesn’t know how much he made me think that day.

Oh yeah, my real name is Trisha, not Carmen… but I’ll answer to both. Carmen? I once listened to a radio interview and this singer was talking about how she has to be forceful sometimes and she had another name for that aspect of her personality. I thought, I am a totally different person when I go to a live show- outgoing and well, really happy. I can have another personality, too! Besides, the next morning I can say “oh that was Carmen” and people understand… It took a little while to come up with a name, and it really didn’t catch on until the cruise. Now people call me Carmen because they don’t know me otherwise. (and a little secret? I like it) So there you have it folks, the history of Carmen.

So, why am I here? I don’t know… I’m not a bigger fan than you (I don’t think)… I don’t have any special talents except for combining my two favorites things (I have a lot of two favorite things, huh?) writing and music… so I guess someone liked what I had to say enough to put me up on this gig and I’m super excited to be here. Holla!

That is GREAT!! I too, LOVE their music along with most of the Red Dirt/ Texas scene…. I feel they beat what Nashville has because they do not dress up in Nudie suits or fancy outfits! Ragged jeans & t-shirts of their friends is what they wear…they are a brotherhood & they sing their own or their friends songs! It all comes from the heart! Keep it real!
